The Music Shoppe - April 26-28, 2019 - a new play with music by Edward Willett

Mme. Blacke has presided over The Music Shoppe in downtown Regina fror as long as anyone can remember. Everyone looking for sheet music goes to The Music Shoppe, which is home to a mysterious automaton, a mechanical pianist that can play any piece of music placed on its stand. Rumor has it that, if you’re having a little relationship difficulty, singing a song Mme. Blacke suggests, with the pianist as accompanist, just may point you to a way out of it. But Mme. Blacke’s time as proprietor is coming to an end. As she helps a final few couples find their way through music, she must also find someone to take her place…or The Music Shoppe will close, and the pianist will never play again. As midnight of her final day approaches, the outcome is far from certain…

The Music Shoppe is a brand new play with music, written and directed by long-time Lyric member (and award-winning author) Edward Willett, with musical direction by Ben Redant. It features 15 songs (mostly solos and duets) in many different styles, from many different eras.

The cast includes:
  • a young teenager (male or female),
  • an older-teen/early-20s couple
  • a 30s-40s couple
  • a retirement-age couple
  • a mid-20s woman, Mme. Blacke's assistant at The Music Shoppe
  • Mme. Blacke herself, a mature woman of indeterminate age.
